The Service of Authority

“Jesus began to wash the disciples’ feet.”
He told them “since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow.
From John 13

Jesus sets the tone for great leadership by showing his disciples how to serve others. This Man who knows he has authority over everyone starts at the lowest place by washing his students’ dirty feet.

Instead of exercising power from the top of the pyramid, Jesus puts their needs first. He develops a team that will accomplish great things by serving others. Being in authority means serving humbly. It means helping your people succeed, who in turn will help others succeed.

Father, give me a continuous passion to serve well. Teach me to put others first and work to expand the team to reach their individual potential.
