The River of God

“The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord;
he guides it wherever he pleases.”
Proverbs 21:1

It’s comforting to know that God guides the hearts of rulers, above their wills and choices. Ultimately, God always is in control.

Our country is facing political unrest and division that will bring serious consequences. Whether or not America’s leaders have a relationship with God or hold godly values, God is fulfilling his master plan. God won’t be surprised—in fact he’s directing from behind the scenes, where none of us can see now. Yes, we all have free will. Yes, we reap what we sow. But no matter what, God rules supremely so he always wins in the end.

As God increases my leadership influence, I often feel overwhelmed and inadequate.  It’s comforting to know God is in control. I can feel him guiding me when I turn my attention to him. Then my heart is like the river of God flowing through it.

While God will use leaders to fulfill his purposes, the leaders themselves may miss the benefit of knowing and experiencing God.

If you want to be God’s leader, step into the place your family or organization are waiting for you to fill. Stay connected to the source and keep the water clean and free from debris. Then God will work through you in ways that surprise even you.
