Resentment Kills

In all, 42,000 Ephraimites were killed at that time.
(Judges 12:6)

The Ephraimites were angry because they didn’t receive credit for winning the war against Ammon. When the battle started, Jephthah called for them, but they didn’t come. So Jephthah fought the battle without them. Now the Ephraimites show up and they’re calling the Gileadites half-breeds and rejects. So war breaks out and they kill forty-two thousand of their own countrymen.

When people on the same team or in the same family become resentful over who gets credit and begin insulting each other’s character, everyone loses big-time.

Lord, make us aware and sensitive to even the smallest seeds of resentment.
