An anxious heart weighs a man down,
but a kind word cheers him up.
Throughout my day, I sometimes come across anxious, distraught, and angry people. Often, my first reaction is to either ignore them or treat them how they treat me. Pride swells up in me and I withhold love from them.
But how earthly minded is that? Why am I forgetting that their words and actions are a symptom of a deeper issue? Instead of “giving them what they deserve,” what if I show them Christ’s love and encourage them with my words?
Kind words are food for the soul. They can change the course of someone’s entire day. When someone encourages me, I light up inside. So instead of reacting out of selfish pride, I should put myself in their shoes and encourage them with the words I know they need to hear.
Lord, give me kindness to speak the encouraging words you want me to share with others.
