O He has made everything beautiful in its time. If I could reach far enough back in my mind, I could see when God created the world. I would see Adam and Eve, Moses, the children of Israel in slavery, the wilderness, and the Promised Land. I would see David, Solomon, and the kings. I would see Mary and Joseph, Jesus’ birth, life, teaching, final prayers, agony, crucifixion, and resurrection. I would see the wars, slavery, pain, and pleasures of humanity. I would see my ancestors and yours and understand... Love prospers when a fault is forgiven but dwelling on it separates close friends. Proverbs: 17:9 Fault finding is our natural tendency. I had a friend who I felt wronged me. I decided it wasn’t worth losing a friend over this, so I overlooked it. I came not to bring peace, but a sword. ‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. Your enemies will be right in your own household!’ Matthew 10:34-36 I don’t think Jesus is telling us it’s time to start brawling with our families. What he’s telling us is that to follow him is a call to challenge the norms and complacency that daily living tends to cultivate. To be... When the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, he said to him, “I am the Lord! Tell Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, everything I am telling you.” But Moses argued with the Lord, saying, “I can’t do it! I’m such a clumsy speaker! Why should Pharaoh listen to me? Exodus 6:28-30 Even when God told Moses what he should do, Moses insisted he wasn’t qualified. I relate to Moses. I feel clumsy and inexperienced a lot! For example, my CFO training in 2018 was scary and intense. I was a fast-track a training program while working full-time... “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7 Worry is like the little person above on the hook We keep him hanging on the hook and keep beating him up. This won’t make your situation any better! Every day I need to give God what I cannot control focus on what I can control. Naomi O nations of the world, recognize the Lord; Psalm 96:7-9 Some days I don’t have much energy. I just don’t have it. But God doesn’t require me to have energy. He asks that I recognize him. As I thought about what it means to recognize the Lord, I think it’s simply not to resort to my puny ways of helplessness. But to yield to him... Command the people of Israel to bring you pure oil… God’s presence has moved from an ornate building or tent to deep inside our hearts. That light shines through our spirits, affecting and energizing us and everyone around us. The light shines out. The pure oil comes from time with God. When the oil runs low, the lamp dims then goes out. We become dark inside. As I get older, I believe staying filled with God has become... The wise are known for their understanding, Recently in one of our team Bible studies we discussed these two verses and I thought about just how a few words of kindness can change the course of a day. A few negative words can shatter someone’s day. We should start our day giving those around us kind words, an uplifting message. We’ll be amazed at how much better the day goes. Alex One of my greatest regrets is that, at age 70, I’m only now discovering some of the simple basics of life. I’ll share three of those basics here: Basic One: Gina and I started our structured schedule for starting and ending the day on February 22, 2020. Today marks day 92. It looks like this: Then we finish the day with a glass of wine and a walk. At first it was somewhat difficult. Sometimes it makes life seem boring. Overall, we’ve been able to accomplish more, go... From Leviticus 19 Do not put your trust in idols Idols aren’t statues. Idols begin in the imagination. They’re those spirits that want our attention. Then we build something that started in the imagination: Some of these can be healthy pursuits. But don’t trust them to fill the God-void. That’s why people feel empty when they reach their lofty goals. They were trusting their mental images to satisfy their God-hunger. Only God... But many of the people who heard their message believed it, In 1970, I left my parents’ home, telling them I want to find out if there’s something better than the life they were living and giving me. They told me I’m passing through a stage and I’ll come back. I told them I’d rather die searching than live in a world without love. For the next couple of years, there were times I thought my parents were right and that I would die searching. In... They immediately left their nets and followed Him. If you spend daily, almost constant time getting to know Jesus, and listening to what he says. If you take time to understand what he’s saying, and once you know what he’s telling you to do, you immediately step out and do it, you’re following Jesus. If you’re doing less than that, you’re probably following someone else’s way or your own, and picking and choosing what will help you get where you want to go. If you follow his way, he will lead you into a life better than... He restores my soul… I believe everything I do for God will reap a reward someday, certainly for me and possibly for the people I serve. But right now, today, I have nothing left in me. I’m deep, deep tired. This is how I feel: Just Throw I will keep going, even on my most difficult days. God says he will restore me. That’s where... For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; I think God smiles real big when someone who is normally negative chooses a cheerful heart. Phillip Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ. To begin our relationship with God, first believe. Regardless of who we are or what we have accomplished on earth we all have the same opportunity with God. How awesome is that! It all starts with believing and letting God transform us. Justin God said to Abraham, “And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” Genesis 12:2-3 Abraham is one of my favorite people in the Bible. He’s also my favorite business mentor. His behavior and character always favored others above himself. (It’s as simple as doing the right thing by other consistently, without seeking... Gina and I are currently on our annual sabbatical in the Dominican Republic. Every morning we rise early, walk the beach as the sun rises, and pray, “God, what do you want to show me?” Then we come in for coffee and journaling, go to the gym, and return to breakfast, more journaling, and a time of worship. Since we’ve been here, God gave us this verse: …let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1 What does this mean to... The sun rises and the sun sets, then hurries around to rise again. Day and night the waves roll in and out. They vary some, but they never stop. While I sleep, while I’m awake. When I’m watching and when I’m not. I used to think life is a series of events. Yet the waves roll... As a result of the king’s decree, Esther, along with many other young women, was brought to the king’s harem at the fortress of Susa and placed in Hegai’s care. Hegai was very impressed with Esther and treated her kindly. He quickly ordered a special menu for her and provided her with beauty treatments. He also assigned her seven maids specially chosen from the king’s palace, and he moved her and her maids into the best place in the harem. Esther 2:8,9 When we decided to go into volunteer quarantine, this verse came to mind. We had...
