Or what king would go to war against another king
without first sitting down with his counselors to discuss
whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the 20,000 soldiers
marching against him? And if he can’t, he will send a delegation
to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away.
How many times have you seen a spiritual battle coming and thought, This will be easy, I’ll be home for supper…? Then partway into the battle, you realize the enemy is fiercer and stronger than you. So you quit! You run, but the enemy chases you home, taking whatever he wants: your money, a piece of your soul, your energy, or even your marriage.
The enemy knows right where to hit. He brings spiritual battles in the forms of negativity, addictions, depression, resentment, gluttony, low self-esteem, and childhood wounds. He backs you against a wall. A victory seems impossible.
But thankfully, you don’t have to fight alone. If you head into a spiritual battle with your own strength, you’ll lose. If God leads you into the battle, you will win. You only need to surrender to him and let his Spirit guide you.
Yes, it’s a real war! And yes, you can win! But you have to first surrender to God’s guidance. Now go out and win!
