Happy are those who don’t listen to the wicked, who don’t go where sinners go, who don’t do what evil people do. They love the Lord’s teachings, and they think about those teachings day and night.
(Psalm 1: 1, 2)
Just because I’m not involved in gross sins, doesn’t mean I don’t have evil thoughts. I choose what thoughts I think. I can let wicked thoughts leave as quickly as they come, or as a helpless victim, I can justify holding onto them.
Sometimes it doesn’t make any sense to let go of perfectly planned out thoughts. But just because I’ve invested in a thought doesn’t mean I should keep it. I don’t have to believe my own thoughts. If they are evil, I won’t be happy listening to them. That’s what evil people do. Evil people aren’t born with evil thoughts. They just cling to evil thoughts and become evil.
If I love the Lord’s teachings—really love them—I will think his thoughts day and night. And it’s freeing, very freeing. The cloud of gloom hovering over me lifts. Nothing can deprive me of my joy in the Lord. His teachings bring life, and I choose life today.
