John said to Jesus,
“Master, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons,
but we told him to stop because he isn’t in our group.”
But Jesus said, “Don’t stop him! Anyone who is not against you is for you.”
Have you ever been hurt by a believer or a church? You thought that church or person would be your safe, spiritual haven. A place where you could be vulnerable. But as you got closer, you discovered corruption, and even traps to keep you there by fear and guilt.
When you finally left, you may have become so bitter, you prayed for God to destroy those people.
But God says the opposite. Don’t stop them from preaching the gospel. They’re still presenting his message to the world, even if they themselves are corrupt. You don’t need to join them or attend their church.
God’s a lot smarter than me. I would have tried to shut them up and shut them down. I would have held on to bitterness and hate. The fact is, we should be pursuing God, not people, even if they’re God’s messengers. Maybe getting burned when we follow people is a blessing in disguise, because it reminds us we’re off track. We need to keep our focus on him.
