I want to report to you, friends, that my imprisonment here has had the opposite of its intended effect. Instead of being squelched, the Message has actually prospered. All the soldiers here, and everyone else, too, found out that I’m in jail because of this Messiah. That piqued their curiosity, and now they’ve learned all about him. Not only that, but most of the followers of Jesus here have become far more sure of themselves in the faith than ever, speaking out fearlessly about God, about the Messiah.
Philippians 1:12-14 MSG
How many times do we think our circumstance are keeping us from God’s calling? We think we can’t serve God until this or that is out of the way. Or we can’t be who God says we should be in this situation.
This didn’t stop Paul. Imagine what he could have thought: God, you called me to save the lost. I’m supposed to be out encouraging the churches. But I’m in prison. Get me out of here so I can do that. Bring me out of this mess so I can demonstrate joy.
Not Paul. He adjusted his sights and leveraged his situation against the enemy.
What can we learn?
