And Saul clad David with his apparel,
and he put a helmet of brass upon his head,
and he clad him with a coat of mail.
And David said unto Saul “I cannot go with these;
for I have not proved them….” And he took his staff in his hand,
and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook…
and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.
1 Samuel 17:38-40

King Saul offered David the latest and best armor available. David declined and went with his tried-and-proven sling and five stones. If he was going into battle, he needed what he already had proven, even if it was simple and crude.

When God gives us a new assignment, he has already been preparing us so we have what it takes to do the job. Those difficult challenges and experiences he allowed us to go through provided us with the tools and training we need for this moment.

Today, when God gives you an assignment, use what he has given you and the tools you have proven through life’s experiences. If you let what you think you lack stop you from facing the battle, then you’ve created your own obstacles.

If God gives you the assignment, you are ready.
