Peripheral Vision

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
(1 Peter 5:8)

Over the past several months, I’ve had the pleasure and challenge of building relationships with many vendors and have learned a lot about who has our back.

Recently, a sales rep stopped by and all he had to say was doom and gloom about price increases, unstable supply chains, companies going out of business or struggling because of divorce, poor strategy, bad hires, deaths, and no succession planning.

We finished our conversation and he went on his way. As I looked out on our shop floor in reflection, I kept thinking, “Man, we are blessed!”

We’ve asked God for wisdom and he’s taught us to be diligent, to plan well, to build and keep great relationships with awesome employees, vendors, and clients.

I called our favorite vendor and played some of the other vendor’s dark, tragic tune to him.

He said, “Sure, there’s some price hikes ahead and the mills are increasing lead times and volume orders. But you don’t have to worry. I knew this was coming, I’ll split the costs with you, so I have you covered. By the way, I also have an opportunity in motion for you guys on a large project coming up.”

“Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

When we follow God’s plan and leading, be sure he’ll have our back. Honing watchfulness and Peripheral Vision helps us see when there’s a wolf among the sheep. Just because there’s bad stuff going on, and the devil is like a lion looking to devour, doesn’t mean we have to crawl in his mouth. We know better, and our God is greater.

Father, thank you for your countless blessings and the way you keep our hearts tuned to you.
