You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
(Matthew 5: 14-16)
About the only time I notice a light’s aesthetics and beauty is at the store. After that, all I notice is if there is light or not.
In the same way we aren’t shining our lights so people see us, but to illuminate the darkness in their lives with God’s light. Our good deeds need to shine out for all to see SO that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Don’t do something at work for you to look good or so you can be promoted. Do it SO that the organization improves and goes to the next level. It’s the same with how you make decisions in your family and how you spend money. My sisters summed it up well. “Spend money to better the lives of the people around you, and not just buying things for yourself.”
It’s about having the heart and mindset to set aside our egos and serve a cause much bigger than ourselves. In the end we will be much happier and fulfilled.
