Get Alone and Talk to God
Later, when Jesus was alone with the twelve disciples
and with the others who were gathered around,
they asked him what the parables meant.
He replied, “You are permitted to understand
the secret of the Kingdom of God.
But I use parables for everything I say to outsiders.”
The secret to understanding God is getting alone with him and asking him to explain the Bible and life. Sure, our teachers can explain to some degree. But God wants us to ask him questions one on one so he can answer in a way that we’ll know he is real.
When we move toward God, we’ll find God already waiting for us. As we ask him hard questions and tell him our deepest, darkest secrets and insecurities, he meets us—right there—with his profound truths and love. Only our degree of openness determines how much of him we experience.
If you’re alone as you’re reading this, will you risk talking to God right now? Ask him if he’s real. Ask him to explain the Bible to you, or to explain how he sees some difficult situations you’re in. Remove the curtain from your heart and tell him everything. If God is real, he will answer. If he isn’t real, he won’t answer.
