It doesn’t matter when we start. It doesn’t matter where we start. All that matters is that we start.

What if half of our frustration in marriage results from the fact that we want it to be easier but God wants us to become more mature?

Life is beautiful not because of the things we see or the things we do. Life is beautiful because of the people we meet.

The Continuum of Time

O He has made everything beautiful in its time.
Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart…
Ecclesiastes 3:11

If I could reach far enough back in my mind, I could see when God created the world. I would see Adam and Eve, Moses, the children of Israel in slavery, the wilderness, and the Promised Land.

I would see David, Solomon, and the kings. I would see Mary and Joseph, Jesus’ birth, life, teaching, final prayers, agony, crucifixion, and resurrection.

I would see the wars, slavery, pain, and pleasures of humanity. I would see my ancestors and yours and understand why we are the way we are.

Then I would reach into the future, beyond the end of life, look back, and know what matters and what doesn’t. And every day I would do only what matters.

Love Prospers

Love prospers when a fault is forgiven but dwelling on it separates close friends.

Proverbs: 17:9

Fault finding is our natural tendency. I had a friend who I felt wronged me. I decided it wasn’t worth losing a friend over this, so I overlooked it. Now after all these years I know I made the right decision because we have a solid friendship.

Little children teach us how to overlook and forgive each other. One minute they’re fighting and calling each other names. Then they forgive each other and move on as though nothing happened. In today’s world I see so many people getting angry with each other over petty things. Then they cut that person out of their life…. it’s no wonder so many people are lonely.

People sacrifice themselves and their stuff to some really stupid things and spirits. It’s easier to see someone else’s Stupid than to see my own.

We follow God’s lead because he doesn’t need to learn from the past. He’s the one who set it all up. What he does works, and we’ll see and understand it when we get to the other side.

Bring a Sword to the Gunfight

“Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword.

‘I have come to set a man against his father,

a daughter against her mother,

and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

Your enemies will be right in your own household!’

Matthew 10:34-36

I don’t think Jesus is telling us it’s time to start brawling with our families. What he’s telling us is that to follow him is a call to challenge the norms and complacency that daily living tends to cultivate. To be the salt of the earth is to ask the hard questions and step into relational roles that aren’t always traditional. There may come a situation where you must stand against a family member over issues that run deeper than blood. When the kingdom of God is on the line, all bets are off. The enemy uses deceptive tactics to infiltrate the cracks of our strongholds. I think this is what Jesus was trying to warn us about here.

Moses Wasn’t Qualified Either

When the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, he said to him, “I am the Lord! Tell Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, everything I am telling you.” But Moses argued with the Lord, saying, “I can’t do it! I’m such a clumsy speaker! Why should Pharaoh listen to me? Exodus 6:28-30

Even when God told Moses what he should do, Moses insisted he wasn’t qualified.

I relate to Moses. I feel clumsy and inexperienced a lot!

For example, my CFO training in 2018 was scary and intense. I was a fast-track a training program while working full-time for our company. Learning about balance sheets and cash flow statements overwhelmed me. I wasn’t feeling or thinking I was qualified. I prayed a lot and trusted my mentors to get me through. Now that I’m through, I still don’t always feel qualified; new challenges hit me constantly.

But I know if I stay grounded in God, everything turns out.
